For KTM 690 and Husqvarna 701 customers, the stock exhaust runs VERY hot, as it's one of the highest-performance engines in the segment with a catalytic converter.
Although the R80 'Revolver' fits these bikes great, it also traps in a lot of exhaust heat. Even with careful heat shield use, melting of the bike's plastics and the luggage can occur. We're actively testing new heat shield solutions, but for now, aftermarket exhaust is required for use with the Reckless 80 V3.0 Revolver. We recommend Akropovic, Arrow brand, and Husqvarna 701 aftermarket exhausts, available from RottweilerPerformance.com
We are unsure of the exact temperature the 690 and 701 put off at this time, however, this issue has only been brought to our attention because we've had other riders melt bags on only those two bikes even with heat shields on (stock muffler only).
Overall, nearly all aftermarket exhausts run cooler than the stock 690/701 exhaust. It's likely that all of the slip on's will work great, but the above-mentioned exhausts are the most common we've personally tested and heard positive feedback on from our customers.
